Deriving its name from the Rancho Los Encinos, meaning Ranch of Oak Trees, Encino was first established in 1845. An affluent neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley, Encino has approximately 44,000 residents, with over 3,800 businesses in its 9 ½ square mile radius.
Located in southern San Fernando Valley, and on the northern side of the Santa Monica Mountains, Encino is bordered by Reseda on the north, on the east by Sherman Oaks, the west by Tarzana, Bel-Air on the southeast, and Brentwood on the south side. Encino is home to three public and eight private schools, which include two private high schools serviced by the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The Encino chamber of commerce hosts monthly and annual events with the community, from miniature golf classics to small business expos. Also found in the community of Encino is the Balboa Sports Complex. Including lighted baseball, soccer and football fields, lighted basketball and tennis courts, a community room, and a gymnasium with the capacity of 400 people.
